The idea of Smokin' Barrels Ranch started when J and I were having one of those conversations, where we envision our future; having a family, kid's names, having a home... We both agreed we wanted to have land, and of course I would keep my horses, and that would be considered a farm, and any good farm is really a ranch, and any good ranch has a name.
Days later I was still thinking about our future ranch home (because I'm a girl, and I can and will sit on a conversation for hours) so I started coming up with names for our make believe ranch. I'm amazed I thought on a name as long as I did because 1. it's an imaginary ranch, and 2. Smokin' Barrels Ranch should have been first pick. J has always been an avid hunter and gun enthusiast and I have always had a pipe dream of training barrel horses. Smokin' gun barrels, smokin' fast barrel horses... you get the idea.
It was the perfect name. I called J and told him about my idea for our non-existent ranch's name, he thought it suited us perfectly (he also thought I was crazy). At the time, we were renting a little one bedroom barn apartment on 11 acres. We needed something to give us a daily reminder of our goals so we made a chalkboard sign that said "Smokin' Barrels Ranch" on it and hung it in our kitchen. Right now all we have is our dream, but one day we'll have our ranch.
